If the cell signal strength is from 0 to -90 dBm, an omnidirectional antenna is an ideal choice. A unidirectional antenna is ideal for cell signals whose strengths come between -91 to -105 dBm range.
If you need to boost cell signals of multiple network carriers at once, you could only use an omnidirectional antenna because a yagi antenna cannot pull signals from multiple cell towers at the same time. Only an omnidirectional antenna is capable of capturing cell signals from multiple cell towers at the same time.
It is always better to use a unidirectional antenna if there is another antenna on the roof and within 30 feet of the signal booster antenna. If you use an omnidirectional antenna, it may capture the signals from the other antenna and affect the functioning of the signal booster system. With the use of a unidirectional antenna, you can eliminate the chance of any possible interference with other antennas.
